What browsers does Smart School support?
Smart School works on any modern browser. The minimum versions we support are:
| Browser | Minimum version | Year released |
|---|---|---|
| Google Chrome | 111 | March 2023 |
| Mozilla Firefox | 128 | July 2024 |
| Apple Safari | 16.4 | March 2023 |
| Microsoft Edge | 111+ | — |
| Opera | All versions | — |
| Samsung Internet | All versions | — |
Any Chromium-based browser with engine version 111 or newer (Vivo Browser, Xiaomi MIUI Browser, Huawei Browser, UC Browser, Realme Browser, Oppo Browser, Brave, etc.) will also work. If your phone's built-in browser is based on an older Chromium version, install Google Chrome from the Play Store — it works on Android 8.0+ and stays up to date independently of your phone's system updates.
What phones and devices does it work on?
Smart School works on:
- Android phones and tablets — Android 8.0 or newer, in any supported browser
- iPhones and iPads — iOS 16.4 or newer, in Safari, Chrome, or any browser from the App Store
- Windows, Mac, and Linux computers — in any supported browser
On slow connections or older devices, the app is designed to stay light and load quickly.
Why did I see Your browser is not supported
?
If you see a 406 Not Acceptable page, your browser version is below the minimums listed above. Common reasons:
- Your phone's built-in browser uses an older Chrome engine. Many phone manufacturers (Vivo, Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo) ship browsers based on older Chromium versions that don't support modern CSS features like
oklch()colors and CSS:has(). The solution: install Google Chrome from the Play Store. - You're using Internet Explorer. IE is no longer supported by any modern web app.
- Your browser hasn't been updated in years. Update it from your app store or system settings.
What to do
- Install Google Chrome — Download Chrome from the Play Store or Chrome from the App Store. Chrome stays up to date even on older phones.
- Update your current browser — Go to your phone's app store and update your browser app.
- Update your phone's software — Go to Settings → System Update and install any available updates. This can also update your built-in browser's engine.
Does Opera work?
Yes. Opera on Android runs the same engine as Chrome and supports all features Smart School needs. Download it from the Play Store and make sure it's up to date. Opera Mini users on very old versions may want to switch to regular Opera or Chrome for the best experience.
I'm using a Vivo / Xiaomi / Oppo / Realme / Huawei phone
Your phone's built-in browser may use an older Chromium engine version (shown in the user-agent as Chrome/XXX). If this version is below 111, you'll see the browser not supported
page. This is because your phone manufacturer hasn't updated the browser's rendering engine.
The fix takes one minute: Install Google Chrome from the Play Store. Chrome carries its own rendering engine and updates independently — it will work even on phones running Android 8 or 9 that no longer get system updates.
How do I install Smart School as an app on my phone?
Smart School is a web app — you don't need to install anything from an app store. You can optionally install it on your phone so it opens like a regular app with its own icon on your home screen.
